The new cheerful interior of this aged house reflects the specific aesthetic and lifestyle choices of its owners – Brooklyn-based writer Gayle Forman and her musician-librarian husband.
A custom wooden kitchen island with gas range and dining space next to it becomes the ‘social zone’ of the interior while a wrought-iron hood above adds even more textural contrast. It is the top level that holds the kids’ sleeping area with a wall of bunk beds master bedroom bathrooms and a long reading desk that stretches along the length of the hallway.
Since the rowhouse is not blessed with extravagantly large spaces it was important to fashion a living environment that was refreshing inviting and visually spacious without going overboard.
An open double-height living area sits at the heart of the home with a large dining area and kitchen next to it. A loft-style bedroom and reading nook sits above the kitchen and dining space and offers a wonderful whimsical escape while natural fiber rugs and linen curtains usher in a sense of softness and visual contrast.
One of the two rear structures hosts the master bedroom suite with the other containing the kids’ bedroom. An undulating roofscape puts the final touches on a truly mesmerizing lakeside home.
