It is barely surprising news to know that we are increasingly moving away from nature and are stuck in a world dominated by concrete glass cement and stone. The urban landscape has barely any space for nature at its vibrant best.
But the woodsy goodness does not end there as flooring ceiling panels and eye-catching trim work were also crafted using this wood. Minimal and elegant the house still remains warm and inviting with large sliding glass doors and floor-to-ceiling glass windows bringing the surrounding scenery and Lake Michigan indoors.
A custom wooden kitchen island with gas range and dining space next to it becomes the ‘social zone’ of the interior while a wrought-iron hood above adds even more textural contrast. Designed by Takashi Okuno to meet the specific needs of a young couple this Japanese home draws its inspiration from simpler structures of the past that were visually connected with the landscape around them. Dubbed ‘‘ this open inviting and light-filled house adopts a more traditional silhouette and yet surprises you with its gorgeous free-flowing interiors.
Since the rowhouse is not blessed with extravagantly large spaces it was important to fashion a living environment that was refreshing inviting and visually spacious without going overboard.
In both the bedroom and the living area it is the fireplace that becomes the focal point of it all with inviting relaxation zones and conversation nooks next to them. White light gray and brown are used to shape the backdrop in each room with festive motifs acting as smart accents in a home where bright colors are a rarity.
