The deck becomes a part of the living room visual giving it a more expansive vibe. A contemporary kitchen with black island and cabinets adds contrast to the open living in white while sliding glass doors bring in a flood of natural light.
A personal workspace on an elevated platform in the home office sits directly below a skylight and provides a calm and unique work area that seems detached from the rest of the house. A balcony along with staircase connects the house with the rear patio while it is still the parlor level with kitchen dining and other public spaces that ends up stealing the spotlight!
The central idea behind the design conjured up by KEM STUDIO was to create a relaxing and nature-centric hub that allows the homeowners to leave behind their hectic urban life. It is essentially a house that has the aura of a ‘serene second home’!
The house has been arranged in two different planes with the lower level containing the living area kitchen and dining. A long covered corridor connects the central courtyard of the residence with the garden and provides a sheltered and illuminated walkway that feels magical.
But the woodsy goodness does not end there as flooring ceiling panels and eye-catching trim work were also crafted using this wood. Minimal and elegant the house still remains warm and inviting with large sliding glass doors and floor-to-ceiling glass windows bringing the surrounding scenery and Lake Michigan indoors.
A wooden accent wall steals the show in the entryway and the bedroom while the large living room in white is punctuated by a dark black feature wall with shelves fireplace and a cozy window seat. White is the color of choice indoors even as large glass doors usher in natural light.
Chilly mountain air descends down to the valley from the lofty peaks each afternoon turning the prospect of an open outdoor garden into an impossibility. To get around this problem Aarón Carrillo Díaz decided to bring the greenery indoors along with the sight of the open sky and plenty of natural light and sweeping terraces.
